Reflections on my Mortality…

Death is everywhere…so is life…and so is opportunity. My recent trip to Germany forced me to reflect on my mortality. It also invited me to reflect on how my mortality has made my life worth living. After visiting the WWII memorials, studying the pictures of 1945 Berlin, the piles of rubble, and running my fingers across the shrapnel damage peppered across the Brandenburg gate—scars that remind us to never forget, I’ve been compelled to reflect upon death and have concluded: there is death and there is death. Everyone will interpret my conclusion differently and that’s a good thing.

It’s a good thing because it’s a paradox. How can the realities of death have made me more aware of the potency of my life and my infinite opportunities? These thoughts prompted me to to submit an article to CREATIVE WISCONSIN MAGAZINE two weeks ago. It was accepted and demonstrated the legitimacy of this paradox, of my above musing. Whether or not you agree, consider pondering life, death, and opportunity. It’s alchemy. It’s worth the journey.
